Margarita IslandWindsurfing where the stars are made...El Yaque The small town El Yaque located in the south of the island offers perfect conditions for windsurfing. Trade winds are blowing from November until April constantly side shore from the left, which makes El Yaque a high wind spot. You find flat water with a huge area of shallow water, which makes the spot attractive for riders of all levels. Classes and rental In El Yaque you find several international windsurfing schools with high quality equipment of all known brands offering classes and rental. Because of the good wind and weather conditions every late winter several professional windsurfers are coming to the island to have a couple of months for training freestyle. Moreover El Yaque is home of some of the best riders in international competitions: world cup champions Ricardo Campello, Cheo Diaz, Gollito Estredo and many more. Other spots on Margarita Wave conditions are rare in Margaritas south. In the west of El Yaque is Punta Canero where you usually can find waves. But there is no infrastructure and usually the centers of El Yaque do not rent their equipment for trips to Canero. La Restinga also offers wave conditions but there too you cannot find any schools which means that you can only use your own gear. To reach the spot you have to use off-road vehicles. Coche Island You can reach Coche from Margarita by boat. The water is flat as glass which makes it perfect to practice moves. A Vela windsurf resort Center rents equipment, but beginners have to be careful because of the offshore wind conditions. Usually the wind is about 3-5 knots lighter than in El Yaque therefore lots of kiteboarders go to Coche. |
