Nueva Esparta State is formed of three islands, Margarita Island, Coche Island and Cubagua Island

Your destination will probably be Margarita Island which has a split personality. The east end of Margarita island has considerable resort development. The west end of Margarita Island is the Macanao Peninsula, an arid, undeveloped region with mountains in the interior and ringed by sandy beaches. Two different sides to the coin
The main island is the cultural and economical part while Macanao remains nearly untouched with only wild animals and fishermen to be seen.

The beaches
All in all the Isla Margarita has 93 kilometers beaches. There are both, animated beaches with small beach restaurants, sport possibilities and beach chair lettings (e.g. in Playa El Agua), as well as small secluded beaches on Macanao faraway from the masses.

Activities
There are activities for any taste. From Windsurfing and Kiteboarding in El Yaque to golf in Porlamar, scuba diving and snorkeling in Coche, Los Frailes and Los Roques to Horsebackriding on Macanao. There is local handicraft art in their original ways in small villages in the island inside, e.g. Tacarigua or Santa. And one can observe the traditional carribbean fischerman´s life in some small places on Macanao and with a little bit of luck admire or even help in the multicolored haul.

Nature shows her most diverse facettes
Macanao moulded into a rough, red yellow to red mountainous wilderness stands in sharp contrast to the Sierra of the main island with its ever green forests, with banana and café plantations, and which invite to go hiking. A further contrast is the coast with white sand beaches and turquoise coloured water to swimm and relax.

Porlamar
Porlamar is the largest city of the island and represents the economical and cultural center. Most diverse purchase possibilities were created by the status of a foreign trade zone, which extend in their range from the native market to the ultramodern Shoppingmall.

Nightlife
Most of the night life takes place in the Bars, restaurants, cinemas, discotheques and Casinos in Porlamar. Naturally the tourist centers such as Playa El Agua alsooffer their evening program.
